Are Elected Officials Earning Their Salaries?
LABELLE, FL. -- The practice of determining the compensation of Florida's county constitutional officers is determined by state law and was first sanctioned by the Constitution of 1885 and has been maintained since the 1968 constitutional revision.
However, it was not until 1973 that the Legislature authorized the salary compensation formula that was the precursor to its present form. The current salary formula methodology specifies that the latest official population estimates for each county serve as a major component of the salary computation.
In addition to the population estimates, the salary formula contains five other components. The base salary and group rate components for the separate officers are specified in various sections of the Florida Statutes. The initial factor component is currently set in law as a constant numerical value. The Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) annually certifies the remaining two components, the annual factor and cumulative annual factor, used in the salary formula computations.
Here's what the Hendry and Glades county officials receive for year 2009-2010:

These salaries are obscene.The Clerk I can understand the rest ,no I think the county commisioners need to get their head out of their ass and step into the real world and pay these folks a salary of their worth.100,266 come on this is Hendry county not Orange county,Hell half these folks keep their own hours.
ReplyDeleteThe state uses a formula to set salaries statewide however right or wrong the formular is.
ReplyDeleteOur county commission sets their staff salaries some of which are above the state formula for the constitutional officers who have to listen and answer to the local voters.
JKK for example does not care about residents or lower level employees and does not answer to anyone.
The salaries were set by statute in GOOD FAITH by intelligent persons AT THE TIME. What they didnt take into account was the possibility that a yahoo uneducated, well known, individual with money backing evil, would be put into office.
ReplyDeleteWould not be so bad if the persons UNDER these folks had a salary that was a percentage of their own bosses. Disparity, pay inequities, and stupity.
Remember WE put these idiots into office, they put JKK into position. I say take them all out next election. Put someone in who doesnt need money or reelection.
Just because the state law says they must receive these amounts doesn't mean they have to accept them or not redeposit them into the payroll for other employees to spread the wealth.
Don't see anybody stepping up to that plate!
Salaries are absolutely ridiculous. Look at the population of these counties. No wonder they have no money for actual workers.
