Unbelievable Past Of Hendry Clerk Candidate

Republican Contender For Hendry Clerks' Office - An Arresting Past

LABELLE, FL. -- On March 20th, Larry D. Wilcoxson submitted his intention to run for the Clerk of the Court for Hendry County, Florida. He opened his campaign with $100 of his own money. He has yet to file 161 petitions required for his candidacy, due at noon May 7th. Or pay a $6,018 filing fee in lieu of petitions.

Wilcoxson, 33 years old, a Republican, in the past associated with the Tea Pary of Florida, ran in 2010 for the Florida House in District 101 in Collier county.

With no political experience other than his failed 2010 run, and none managing a department as large as the Hendry Clerk's office, Wilcoxson hopes to take over the office occupied by Democrat Barbara Butler.

Wilcoxson has a Master's degree in Divinity from Martin University, the only predominantly African America university in Indiana and a degree in Criminal Justice.

While having no real experience in managing a large budge and Clerk's office, Wilcoxon does have some familiarity with the court system.

He was arrested in 2006 charged with three counts of child molestation in Indianapolis, Indiana. Wilcoxson was a substitute teacher at Longfellow Middle School.  The alleged victim was a 13-year old girl.

UPDATE: On September 11, 2007 the Court sustained a Motion to Dismiss the case after the State of Indiana's Motion to Dismiss citing "Essential Witness's Testimoney Excluded"

He had previously been fired for allegedly exposing himself to a female school custodian at Indianapolis' Donnan Middle School while he was substitute teaching there, according to press reports.

In 2008, he was a defendant along with the Indianapolis School System and the Indianapolis Police Department in a Federal Civil Rights suit brought by Valerie Davis of Indianapolis.

In 2010, during a press interview he responded to the molestation charges saying he was targeted by police who roughed him up and used racial epithets during an investigation of the sexual molestation case, to which he claims to have had no connection.

In August 2003, Collier Sheriff's deputies arrested Wilcoxson AKA "Scooby" Wilcoxson for charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a weapon. He spent almost a month in Collier jail until he bonded out on $20,000 bail. The state attorney dropped the charges in October.

In 2006, Collier county records indicate Wilcoxson was the defendant in several traffic cases and a paternity suit.

Southwest Florida Online contacted Wilcoxson on March 27 for an interview. Wilcoxson did not respond until ten days later, April 6. He was again contacted on April 9th for an interview appointment, but did not respond.

Thank you for informing the public about this pathetic sociopath. The citizens of Hendry County should research each and every candidate up for election. How can one vote for such a man with a checkered past, especially as it relates to child molestation.

I have information on just how troubled this man is. I have forwarded my contact information to the editor if interested.

This person is truly a sick individual. I contacted the supervisor of elections and was surprised that there is no background check done on persons seeking office.

I am forwarding this information to every news and media outlet. Mr. Wilcoxson watch out because I will be at every one of your meetings to put a stop on this (June 2 right?).

It amazes me that when I spoke to Mr. Wilcoxson he did not shy away from not one question. It's easy to be arrested. This young man was not convicted nor did he go to trial. If you did the research as I did you would see where the dirty police officer was reprimanded for putting those charges on him as he file lawsuit. He also has a conceal weapon permit & went to law school so its evident he is not a CONVICTED FELON. I applaud the young man for striving for success instead of robbing, killing, & selling drugs.

I think that this candidate should take a long look
at himself in the mirror and tell the people of
HENDRY CO why a man who doesn't even financially
support his son be a guardian of the citizenry.

Wrong Larry Wilcoxson, his son has lived with him since forever. Do you mean his mother because Larry is always at the school and staying on top of Larry Jr. If you really research Larry & I know he don't mention his cousins with the same name since his father is a twin. Now that Larry stay in trouble. Look up Leon county data base. Larry father side of the family is from there. Just ask him, he don't shy away from anything or anyone.

The worst thing about Mr. Wilcoxson is that he doesn't recognize real love when it is right before his eyes. Past the fussing and misunderstandings over the last weeks, the fact remains that there is no greater love....

he cant be any worse than the ones you have in the court system.one woman in your court system has a criminal in her family.maybe you should do a background check on your employees instead of paying them the money they are not worth.

I have only known Mr. Wilcoxson for 1 year, but during that time he has displayed NO concerning behaviors. In fact, without even asking, he volunteered information about his past. I respected his forthrightness, and how he transformed 'lemons into lemonade' through higher education; receiving his masters of divinity, & criminal justice degree, as well as educating & involving himself in local politics AND various community betterment projects. Has Mr. Wilcoxson made some mistakes in his past? Perhaps. But haven't most of us? As several previous repliers wisely mentioned, ANYONE can be arrested or charged. The important part is, have they been CONVICTED?
As someone who has been past involved in the media, as well as lived long enough to witness racism, hatred & ignorance, I am WELL AWARE that there are sadly still some people who do not want to see Black men succeed. A motivated, well-spoken Republican Black man who appeals to many within his community is a THREAT to White America. Ive seen Black men harassed & treated unfairly because of racial profiling & the negative stereotypes some of white America still holds on to. I know of Black men who were thrown in prison for years, only to have DNA evidence later prove their innocence. I also know how slanted & biased the liberal news media is; eager to point fingers at those they hate or feel threatened by, yet covering up their own sides 'sins.' Again, there is a difference between being CHARGED, & being CONVICTED. I dont know all the details, but I do know Mr. Wilcoxson was NOT convicted. And, according to our legal system, he is thus then INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. The fact he was released speaks for itself.
Personally, I commend Mr Wilcoxson for fighting hard to step out of an environment that would hold most younger black men back; for wanting better for his life, for wanting to better his community, & for being strong enough to stand through defaming 'news stories' like this which hide important facts, such as charges dropped, or was 'not' convicted.
