Glades Health Department Seeking Accreditation Review

MOORE HAVEN, FL. -- On Thursday, January 22, the Florida Department of Health in Glades County will receive a “Site Visit” from the Public Health Accreditation Board.

The purpose of the site visit is to allow for review by peer public health practitioners and to verify the documentation submitted to PHAB by the health department. This is an opportunity for the site visitors to ask questions and request further explanation in support of the accreditation review.

Public Health Accreditation is a process to measure health department performance against standards, and reward or recognition for those health departments who meet the standards.

Accreditation through PHAB provides a means for a department to identify performance improvement opportunities, improve management, develop leadership, and improve relationships with the community. The process is one that challenges the health department to think about what business it does and how it does that business.

The Florida Department of Health has applied for accreditation as a single agency to include Central Office and all 67 County Health Departments. The accreditation standards address the array of public health functions set forth in the ten Essential Public Health Services.
