Amateur Radio Activates Hendry County Net January 5

LABELLE, FL. -- Amateur radio stations in Hendry county get off to a quick start Tuesday, January 5, 2015 with the first The Hendry Emergency Management/Amateur Radio Emergency Services radio net at 7:30 pm on the Labelle repeater.

On air radio nets will be the first and third Tuesday of each month, said assistant Emergency Coordinator Andrew Frame. Frame's FCC amateur radio callsign is WD4RCC.

(For ham radio operators: the frequency for the LaBelle 2-meter repeater at the EOC tower is 145.470 with a PL tone of 97.4)

The purpose of the on-air radio net is to become proficient at message handling and net control operations and communications skills.. Everyone that wants to, will get an opportunity to be the net control station.

Come to the in-person meeting January 25th at the Emergency Operations Center west of LaBelle on SR80. Meetings are the fourth Monday of each month at 7 pm at the EOC, and alternating with a location to be determined in Clewiston.

- March 19th - Sugar Festival Festival special event radio station W4W
- June 25th - Amateur Radio Field Day

One-day licensing classes for newbies and those ham radio operators upgrading, and CERT training to expand preparedness and disaster response skills are all in the works.
