Martha Bireda - Southern Cooking Program March 24

LABELLE, FL. -- LaBelle Heritage Museum's final 2020 Spring FLORIDA TALKS program is set for LaBelle High School on Tuesday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m.

Martha Bireda, PhD, 5th generation Punta Gorda resident and director of the Blanchard House Museum of African Heritage and Culture will present the African Roots of Southern Cooking in an interesting and entertaining discussion of African foodways brought to the American South by enslaved Africans on the perilous Middle Crossing -- rice, peanuts, greens, okra, and more -- now known as "soul food" that defines the majority of Southern cooking.

FLORIDA TALKS is a series of admission FREE programs made possible by a Florida Humanities grant with financial support of the National Endowment for the Humanities and local support from LaBelle High School and the Port LaBelle Inn and Conference Center.
