One trip to the recycling bin 4 blocks from my home every other week gets the job done.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999078.post-88673759780861439922010-04-26T13:05:57.388-04:002010-04-26T13:05:57.388-04:00It would be nice if Clewiston would some day join ...It would be nice if Clewiston would some day join the rest of the world.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999078.post-28729507839998565942010-04-26T08:07:34.481-04:002010-04-26T08:07:34.481-04:00Recycing? I do not see any evidence of it in Clewiston!Guildladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03574218729405649235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999078.post-69001977932630118422010-04-25T22:46:46.680-04:002010-04-25T22:46:46.680-04:00Wasn't recycling supposed to be about doing so...Wasn't recycling supposed to be about doing something positive that helps our planet? Who cares if there is no profit margin in green glass! Is running raw sewage through a treatmant plant profitable? If not, why not just run raw seage into open waters? You are missing the point. That green glass could be utilized locally. Maybe new industry created? Where is your innovative and creative solutions for dealing with your recycling? Sounmds more like just cheap collection is your biggest concern? Where does your stuff go? Is it shipped overeseas to be sorted by child labour? What if you designed recycling programs that promoted redusing consumption, rewarding good behaviour and made it more expensive to waste? If Single Stream curbside collection was so great, how come our planet is in the mess it is in? In many communities, recycling has turned into a program to make stuff leave our curbs as cheaply as possible. How about treating these discards as resources to make new products out of? Styrofoam is recyclable www, gibsonsrecycling.ca, we do it in Gibsons British Columbia Candada. Why can't you do that there? Maybe raising the bar and to not continualy lowering it might be a good place to start. Folks want to do what is right. Challenge your citizens. Give them something to be proud of? Develop Resource Recovery porgrams that creates jobs in your community. North Americans consume way too much and expect that cheap discarding will make things OK. Maybe it is time to look at maybe being more environemntaly motivated and less budgetary motivated. If being fiscally responsible was working so well, then why is the planet in trouble? Recycling has to turn into Resource Recovery and Zero Waste action plans right now. Time to look at thinking big and doing what is right. There is a huge manufactoring industry overseas utilizing our throw aways creating jobs ove there. Why not creat a North American Reuse and Manufactoring sector here? This is not hard. Just means we all have to roll up our sleeves and take care of our own stuff a bit more. Come on South Florida, we are all drinking the same water and breathing the same air! Nature has no borders. Raise the bar? Maybe hire a Zero Waste consultant?

Buddy Boyd
Gibsons Recycling Depot
Gibsons BC
CanadaGibsons Recyclinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07512987810240213348noreply@blogger.com
