Janet was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 2, 1936 to the late Wesley and Doris Turnipseed. She graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1954 and later began her 31-year career with Delta Air Lines.
She was well suited to her career at Delta as it afforded her the opportunity to travel, meet new people, and develop many cherished and lifelong friendships.
She met Donald “Gene” Hammond at Delta and that meeting culminated in a marriage that lasted 53 years. In 1988, they retired to their dream home on the Caloosahatchee river in LaBelle, Florida.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gene Hammond.
She is survived by her sister, Frances Meaders; brother, Wesley Turnipseed, Jr.; children, Maxwell Scott Hammond (Kathy) and Barbara Lee Jackson (Jeremy); as well as three grandchildren: Matthew, Mark, and Dakotah; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
