Truck Crash With 40,000 Pounds Of Chicken

FORT MYERS, FL -- Single semi-truck crash on southbound Interstate 75, at mile marker 124, Lee County at 9:41 am Friday. Semi-truck driver experienced a medical episode, which led to the truck crashing into the wood line. Nearly 40,000 pounds of raw chicken was spilled onto the shoulder / wood line. Semi-truck Driver was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

From the FHP crash report:

Vehicle 1 (semi-truck) driven by 41 year old male from Chapin, SC was traveling south on Interstate 75 in the area of the 124 mile marker.

Driver 1 experienced a medical episode.

Vehicle 1 veered off the roadway, entered the grass shoulder and collided with several trees in the wood line.

Vehicle 1 was hauling nearly 40,000 pound of raw chicken, which spilled onto the shoulder / wood line.

Driver 1 was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
