Death In Fiery Crash - Two Burned

One Dead, Passenger And Rescuer Severely Burned

ARCADIA, FL. -- Wilfred Calvin Jones, 55 of Arcadia died in a fiery crash Sunday morning about 10:43. A passenger was rescued from the burning truck by a passerby and both suffered severe burns.

Jones, driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup was westbound on State Road 70 when for unknown reasons drifted across the eastbound lane of State Road 70 and onto the south shoulder of State Road 70 near Sugar Blvd. After traveling down the shoulder, the front of the truck struck a barbed wire fence and a large oak tree.

Upon striking the tree, the truck became engulfed in flames.

After the crash, a passerby, Mr. Levi Parker Teuton age 35, responded to help remove passenger Chicago A. Gainer, 15 from the burning vehicle. In doing so, both the passenger and Mr. Teuton were severely burned.

Both were med-flighted to Tampa General Hospital. Tests for alcohol use are pending on the driver.

    Levi is a hero, plain and simple. I can only imagine how courageous a man he is. Wow. My thoughts are with him and the young man he saved.
