Mark Richards Arrested On Firearm Charges

CLEWISTON MAN ARRESTED ON FIREARM CHARGES

CLEWISTON, FL. -- On Monday July 14, 2021, at approximately 3:25 pm, Deputies with the Hendry County Sheriff's Office responded to 1157 Harlem Academy Ave, Clewiston, after receiving a report of gun shots.

Investigators were able to determine that a man was seen driving on older model vehicle northbound on Harlem Academy when suddenly when they suddenly heard a stream of gunshots.

Hendry County Sheriff’s Office General Crimes Investigation Unit, with the assistance of witness accounts, was able to positively identify the shooter as 27 year old, Mark Wayne Richards Jr. Further investigation revealed that Richards first fired shots at the victim, causing the second subject to act in self defense and fire back.

On Thursday, July 16, 2021, the HCSO General Crimes Investigation Unit was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Richards on charges of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill, Discharge Firearm from Vehicle, Possession of a Firearm by a Florida Convicted Felon and Use/Display of Firearm during a Felony. 

 Later that evening Richards responded to the Clewiston Substation and turned himself in. He was taken into custody and transported to the Hendry County Jail where he is currently being held on $55,000 bond.
