Obituaries - Thomas Ashley, Morris Howard Garner

Thomas “Tommie” Ashely Jones age 84, of LaBelle, Florida passed away after a courageous battle of a lengthy illness at his home with his family around him on July 13, 2024.

Tommie was born in Palmdale, Florida on January 23, 1940 to the late Jeff and Hazel Albritton Jones. Tommie proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1964 in Germany as a Artillery Communication Specialist. He worked in citrus harvesting for most of his adult life, owning Citrico Harvest Company for 17 years in laBelle. 

 Tommie worked for many years before working in the citrus industry as a cowboy and later helped his family and friends who still owned cows. He truly enjoyed being a cowboy. Tommie was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Tommie married Betti Hansen and they were married for 58 years.

Tommie leaves fond memories with his loving wife; Bettie Jones of LaBelle, his son; Chris Jones, daughter; Jill Well (John) and three grandchildren; Daiton Johnson, Gage Shield and Savannah Shield, one brother; Carroll Jones and his wife Sheron of LaBelle and one sister; Helen Mosley of Fort Myers, Florida.

Celebration of Tommie's life will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home- LaBelle, where visitation will be one hour before the celebration. Burial will be in Fort Denaud Cemetery also in LaBelle.

Morris Howard Garner, age 90 of Clewiston, Florida passed away after a lengthy illness at Hendry Regional Medical Center on July 14, 2024.

Morris was born on January 24, 1934 in Cedartown, Georgia to the late William Clarence “W.C." and the late Della Morris Garner. He was married to Martha Stitcher Garner. He worked as a trucker driver for all of his adult life. He was a member of the Teamsters Union working for Consolidated Trucking. He enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends and the warm Florida weather.

Morris was one of seven children. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Stitcher Garner, his brothers and sisters; Bill Garner, Seales Garner, Charles Garner, Bonnie Warren, Sarah Swales, and Charlotte Latham.

Morris leaves fond memories with his sister-in-law; Judy Moody Camp and several nieces and nephews along with his friend Robbi Kincaid and her family.

Cremation arrangements are being entrusted to Akin-Davis Funeral Home - Clewiston.
