Vehicle Crashes Through Gate
LABELLE, FL. -- Hendry County Deputy Sgt. Michael Lee Horne died at his home Tuesday after a crash through a gate.
At approximately 6:00 am , January 27, 2009, Communications Personnel of the Hendry County Sheriffs Office received a call for assistance regarding a suspicious incident.
Upon the arrival of deputies it was discovered that Hendry County Sergeant Michael Lee Horne was returning to his home just prior to leaving his tour of duty. For unknown reasons Sgt. Horne's car proceeded through a locked gate and into the side of a small garage at his home. Upon the arrival of medical personnel they found Sgt. Horne unresponsive and began immediate resuscitation attempts without success.
Sgt. Horne was a ten-year veteran with the Hendry County Sheriffs Office beginning his career as a Corrections Officer in 1998. He later attended a cross over academy in 2001 and has served in the capacity of Patrol Officer and recently attaining the rank of Sergeant.
During his tenure with the Hendry County Sheriffs Office, Sgt. Horne was the recipient of many awards and numerous commendations. Aside from public recognition, Sgt. Horne has established many, many close friends and comrades. He leaves behind two daughters, ages 9 and 11.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the traffic crash.
