Short Cakes Lease To End - Food Safety Violations Found

LABELLE, FL. -- Ashely Dolores Slovinksi, as corporate Registered Agent of Short Cakes LLC, located at the LaBelle Airport has allegedly been notified by the Hendry County Board of County Commissioners that the limited liability company's multi-year lease is not being renewed this October.

Citing defaults allegedly made by the 70-seat restaurant owner under the lease agreement, the popular restaurant may be looking soon for a new location.

The county has an active request for proposals (RFP) for the lease of the restaurant space at the LaBelle Airport with a pre-bid conference on August 4, 2026 at 2 pm at the LaBelle Airport and a submission deadline of 2 pm, August 26, 2026.

Slovinsky, and owner and Corporate Manager of the company, Irvin Wayne Short showed up at the July 28 County Commission meeting to see if they could resolve the issue.

The eatery has had numerous problems with Florida Food Safety inspectors with warnings issued and six violations found July 15, with a follow up inspection required. One violation was that Slovinski's Certified Food Manager certificate had expired. That and no employee training has been cited in numerous state inspections,

Every inspection since opening in December 2020 has resulted in violations, with the largest number, 18 in December, 2022. In the past the restaurant has been fined for violations, once in September of 2021 and May, 2021.
