Coronavirus Update From CDC February 28

ATLANTA, GA. -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides an audio teleconference update to media on the COVID-19 response by Nancy Messonnier, M.D., Director, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.

As of Friday afternoon (EST) there were 84,119 confirmed cases reported, 97% were in mainland China and 62 cases in the U.S. 2,337 case were reported in South Korea, 888 in Italy, and 228 in Japan. 705 are from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan.

More than 780,000,000, or more than one-half the total population are under quarantine or travel restrictions in China, with the strictest measures in Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak. Almost half of the mainland Chinese cases have recovered. The population of China is 1,428,000,000. Quarantined areas are also now in Italy.
