Hundreds Line Up For Food In LaBelle Thursday Morning

LABELLE, FL. -- Vehicles lined up Thursday at Christ Central Church for food given out by Harry Chapin Food Bank. With the delay in paying  SNAP food supplement benefits, families are anxious about how to feed their children, while seniors on limited incomes may be making sacrifices with no supplemental food benefits paid this month.

There were 9,625 SNAP participants in Hendry County, FL, as of late 2025, representing 23.92% of the county's population. The average benefit per person is around $188 per month, though the maximum monthly benefit depends on the household size, ranging from $298 for one person to $994 for a family of four for the 2025-2026 year.

About 42% of SNAP participants are adults aged 18-59, 39% are children, and 19% are adults over age 60.

Snap benefits can be use to purchase any food for the household, such as:
Fruits and vegetables;
Meat, poultry, and fish;
Dairy products;
Breads and cereals;
Other foods such as snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages; and
Seeds and plants, which produce food for the household to eat.

SNAP benefit amounts (October 2025 - September 2026) Per person: The average monthly benefit is estimated to be about $188, some families receiving the minimum of $25 and others qualify for a greater amount depending on income, expenses, and family size.

The supplemental food benefits are awarded by each state depending on family size, family income, and household expenses including housing, electric, phone, and water expenses.

2 people: $546
3 people: $785
4 people: $994
For each additional person: +$218
