Obituaries - David Lyons, Martha Toulis, Robert Capling

David Alan Lyons Sr. passed away in Lehigh, Florida on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 23, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jack E. and Mildred (Horne) Lyons.

In 1970 he married his high school sweetheart, Linda J. Brown and they were married 55 years. He is survived by sons David Lyons Jr. (Kayla) and Michael Lyons (Susan) and daughter Laura Lyons Lofton (Vee) and sister Joan Lyons Hamil and brother Jack R. Lyons.

He leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren Maura Lofton Gagliano (Richard), Madelyon and Max Lofton, Payton, Karsyn, Kyler and Keegan Lyons, and Abigail and Maisey Lyons.

David received his bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Marketing from the Youngstown State University in 1971. In 1981 the Lyons family moved to the area so Dave could work at Clewiston News, then Caloosa Belle and finally Lyons Printing.

Dave worked for 40 years as a business owner alongside his beloved wife Linda, feeling like he never worked a day in his life.

Dave was a member of Carlson Memorial Methodist Church in LaBelle and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a past member of LaBelle Quarterback Club and Clewiston Rotary. Dave served as City Commissioner of the City of LaBelle from 1988 to 2013 and Mayor of the City of LaBelle from 2013 to 2021.

He spent his retirement years camping with family, restoring vehicles, and piddling on anything and everything at his favorite place, his river shop. Affectionately known by many as “Pappy” he will be remembered for his tailgates, sense of humor and his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pappy was an inspiration to many; as a husband, father, grandfather, community leader, mentor and friend.

Funeral services will be held at Carlson Memorial Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, November 14, 2025 from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle. Memorial donations may be made in David’s Memory to Carlson Memorial Methodist Church Sound System Fund.

Martha “Sassy” Christine Toulis
August 2, 1941 – November 3, 2025

Martha “Sassy” Christine Toulis, 84, of Clewiston, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on November 3rd, 2025.

Known to everyone simply as “Sassy,” she had a smile that could light up any room and a personality to match. A true social butterfly, she never met a stranger — and she spent much of her life bringing people together, whether through her work as Executive Director of the Clewiston Chamber of Commerce or by lending a hand at the family restaurant where laughter and conversation always followed her.

Sassy loved the simple joys of life: cheering on her beloved Florida Gators, watching golf and tennis, and spending time with family and friends. She had a gift for making others feel seen, appreciated, and loved — a gift that will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Toulis; her son, Anthony Cole Toulis; her brother, Ronald Hare; and her parents, Louise and R.M. Hare Jr.

Sassy is survived by her devoted daughter, Allison Toulis; her loving brother, Bobby Hare III; and her cherished grandson, Brandon Cole Toulis — along with countless friends and community members whose lives she touched.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clewiston, Florida, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her beautiful life and the joy she brought to others.

Her warmth, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

In lieu of Flowers, please make donations to Cross Training Ministries.
