IMMOKALEE, FL. -- A multi-vehicle crash at 11:41 AM on SR 82 east of Naples Avenue West near the southwestern Hendry county line and Collier county caused two to be critically injured and seven children passengers taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
A 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor driven by Tikeisha Hawkins, 29 of Immokalee, Florida was traveling west on SR 82, east of Naples Avenue West as a 2002 Saturn LS1 driven by Jessica Jackson, 28 of Immokalee was traveling east on SR 82 east of Naples Ave.
A third vehicle, a 2000 Mercury Cougar, driven by Demmona Short, 37 of Lehigh Acres was traveling east on SR 82, two vehicles back from the second vehicle. The first and second vehicles were approaching each other as Hawkins lost control and her vehicle began rotating counterclockwise while traveling in a southwest direction.
Her car traveled into Jackson's path. Subsequently, the front right portion of the Endeavor collided with the front left portion of the Saturn which post collision rotated counterclockwise as it traveled slightly southeast.
It came to final rest facing northeast, while occupying the eastbound lane of SR 82 and the paved apron. Post collision, the Endeavor continued to rotate counterclockwise as it traveled in a west direction. The vehicle that was in between the second and third vehicle was able to avoid collision by maneuvering onto the south shoulder.
Short observed the collision and maneuvered the Mercury to the right in an attempt to avoid collision. Subsequently, her left rear portion of the Mercury collided with the rear left portion of the Endeavor and her vehicle came to rest facing northeast on the south grassy shoulder of SR 82.
The Endeavor came to rest facing north, while occupying the eastbound lane of SR 82 and the paved apron. During this crash, it was raining. This crash occurred 467 feet west of the Collier County line.
The driver of the Saturn and passenger Tabricka Jackson, age 12 were both taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. The driver and child passenger in the Cougar were not injured.
The FHP Trooper Danny Diaz and Investigator Corporal Michael Michaud indicate on the crash report it is unknown if alcohol was a factor for the driver of the second vehicle. Charges are pending investigation.
