How To Keep Your Energy Bills Lower

Energy Efficiency Day is Wednesday, Oct. 2, and Florida Power & Light Company is sharing easy tips for customers to do around the house to help manage energy usage and find ways to save all season long.

Bianca Soriano, FPL spokesperson says, “It’s Energy Efficiency Day. At FPL, we want to help customers keep their bills low, and a great way to do that is to be energy efficient at home. An easy way is to set your A/C between 75 to 78 degrees to save on your cooling costs.

"Also, use cold water when doing your laundry and use ceiling fans to cool you when in a room. Turn them off however, they only cool people not rooms."

The Tips

Cooling your home makes up more than 50% of your bill. Set A/C to a comfortable temperature and avoid changing it more than two degrees at a time for max savings.

Choose your dishwasher, which uses 1/3 less water, and skip the pre-rinse. Instead, use the rinse cycle until it's time to clean a full load.

About 90% of your laundry energy consumption comes from heating the dryer. Use your dryer’s auto sensor function to conserve energy by not over-drying your clothes. Remember to clean the lint filter before every load to dry your clothes faster.

Take advantage of FPL’s free tools and resources like the House of Savings Challenge where you can learn more ways to reduce your energy usage and compete for a chance to win a prize pack worth $150!
