Larry Franklin Tiner 57, of Labelle, Fl. passed away at home Monday November 5, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of SWFL. He worked for many years as a Supervisor for Sunnygrove Landscaping. He enjoyed the outdoors and the woods. He loved his granddaughter and she was his pride and joy. 

He was predeceased by his father Franklin B. Tiner. Surviving are: his son Ben Ross (Erin) Tiner; a daughter Kailah Tiner; his mother Marie; granddaughter Kalee Tiner; brothers Adam and David Tiner of Samson, AL; significant other Terri Skinner, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday November 10th from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Akin-Davis Funeral Home 13932 Palm Beach Blvd. Ft. Myers.

Lawrence "Larry" D. Spencer died peacefully surrounded by his family. after a three-year battle with MDS/Leukemia, on November 3rd, 2018 at the age of 84, nine days shy of his 85th birthday.

Larry was born in Big Beaver, MI on November 12th, 1933. He was drafted in the Navy in 1952 during the Korean War and was stationed at Moffett Naval Air Station in Sunnyvale, California where he worked as a tool and die maker. In the early 1970s, he moved to LaBelle Florida and had a successful career in Real Estate for many years. He has lived there with his family ever since.

Larry was an accomplished realtor and a professional horse trainer. A very family oriented man, he coached his children's sports teams for many years as they grew up. Larry was a history buff who loved reading books, completing puzzles and watching Jeopardy. He loved all sports, but he most especially loved cheering for his favorite football team, the Miami Dolphins.

Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Frances White Spencer and his children, Barbara (Rafael) Mateo, Michael Spencer, Denny (Courtney) Spencer, Bret (Carina) Spencer and Breanna Spencer. Larry will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Rachel, Ella, Denise, Tiffany, Leyton, Koby, Tanner, Gracie and Justin; by his siblings Doralee (Bernie) Torgler, Norman (Margi) Spencer, Pat (John) Finch and Tim (Margaret) Spencer; by his mother-in-law Evelyn Crosby White; by his sisters-in-law Louise Rimes, Trudy (Mark) Henderson; and by his brother-in-law, Bobby (Debbie) White.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Orville and Dorothy; his daughters, Sharon and Debra; and grandsons John Paul Burchard and Scott Smith.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 PM on Thursday, November 8th, 2018 at Community Harvest Worship Center located at 55 Orange Ave, LaBelle, Florida. Please join his family in remembering and celebrating someone who gave so much to the community, his friends, and most especially his family!

Kiwanis Appreciation Day November 10

LABELLE, FL. -- The Kiwanis Club of LaBelle would like to invite all customers to a Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, November 10th from 11am to 1pm at the LaBelle Kiwanis Thrift Store, 155 S. Bridge Street, LaBelle. 

As a thank you to returning customers as well as new customers, there will be free hot dogs, chips and sodas! 

Remember that Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. With the help from customers that faithfully shop at the Kiwanis Thrift Store and folks donating their new and gently used items, LaBelle Kiwanis can give back to the community through scholarships and sponsored youth programs.

Miller Couse Retires From Hospital Board

Clewiston, FL – After over 30 years of service to the public on the Hendry Regional Medical Center Hospital Authority Board, Miller Couse will step down this November. He reflects on his time served on the board and the roll HRMC plays in the fabric of Hendry County and the surrounding communities.

Couse was originally appointed by then Florida Governor Bob Martinez in 1987, and was re-elected by the constituents of District 4 for the next three decades. As a community leader he found the appointment and years of service an easy calling.

“Healthcare is very important and is in the fabric of our community as it is used by everyone” stated Couse. “Having a hospital makes a community pleasant to live in. You do not have to drive 60+ miles to receive basic healthcare services, and the emergency department is available in your time of need.”

During his first few years on the board, the Hospital was in financial trouble and the administrator had just left. The board made the decision to bring on a professional management company to oversee and make changes for the better; this management relationship still exists today and provides fiscal responsibility and stability with strong leadership.

Hendry County has a high un-insured, self-pay population and as such Hendry Regional depends on the ad valorem tax dollars it receives. Couse always took into consideration both the constituents and patients thoughts and feelings when making budgetary decisions. As such the hospital in 2017 provided over $2.7 million in community benefits over and above the tax dollars it receives, a trend that has continued for years.

When asked to reflect on the top moments of serving on the board the last decades he easily answered the grand opening of the LaBelle Convenient Care Center (2011), the new Emergency Department (2011) and the Medical & Rehabilitative Services Building (2017). He reflects that these accomplishments could not have happened without the backing of the HRMC Foundation. “The funds raised reflect what the people in our community think of the hospital as they continue to give generously year after year,” stated Couse.

Hendry County is poised for great growth in the coming years which will allow the legacy Couse created to thrive. 31 years is a long time to serve an organization and be dedicated to its mission, he sees so much talent in the County and is excited for the future.

Elaine Wood, Senior Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer of US Sugar has been elected to fill the District 4 seat on the Hospital Authority Board and will begin her first term in December. “US Sugar built the original hospital in 1937, and I am excited to see their willingness to engage with Hendry Regional and continue the long legacy they started,” stated Couse.

Couse views the hospital as the ultimate insurance policy, “you hope you never have to use it, but it is there in your time of need and comfort.” He will continue to be involved with Hendry Regional through the HRMC Foundation and leaves a long legacy of leadership from his tenure as a dedicated public servant.

Salute To Veterans November 6

MOORE HAVEN, FL.-- The 8th annual GLADES SALUTE TO VETERANS will be held Friday November 9 at Doyle Conner Building in Moore Haven.

Opening ceremonies begin at 6PM with presentation of colors by the Glades County Sheriff’s Office Color Guard. Lobby will be closed during this presentation.

A buffet dinner catered by Kurbside Treats will be followed by special recognition of US Military Veterans from all branches of the Service.

Special guest keynote speaker will be Moore Haven’s own “hometown girl” and Veteran, Andria Bryant Dolan, who retired with 25 years in the United States Air Force.

Mrs. Dolan’s family has a long history of service in United States Military. We welcome her and members of her family, as will the many friends she has here.

Patriotic music will be provided by Rylie Patterson, daughter of Jeffrey and Tiffany Patterson.

Laura Mathis will preserve the event with her photography skills.

This year portrait photographer Berenice Acosta will be on hand to make portraits free to each Veteran individually, so we can begin our Hall of Fame Salute album.

The event/dinner is free to Veterans of any branch of the US Military.

A nominal donation of $10 will be accepted from non-veteran guests.
