Alberto Cruz Dead In Midnight Go-Cart Crash

LAKE PLACID, FL. -- Alberto Cruz Jr.,  15 of Lake Placid died in a crash early Sunday morning when the unlighted off road go-cart he was driving was hit by a car.

Cruz was northbound on Highlands Blvd approaching Fairhill St. in Highlands county in a ManGo 169CC off road go-cart with no lighting at 12:50 a.m. Sunday morning.

William Dresselt, 24 of Lake Placid was southbound on Highlands Blvd just south of Fairhill St. and entered the northbound lane of Highlands Blvd in order to pass traffic ahead, failing to observe the go-car due to the lack of vehicle lighting.

The front left of the Chevy Impala collided with the front left of the go-cart. This collision caused the go-cart to rotate in a counter clockwise direction and travel in a southeasterly direction onto the east shoulder. As it continued southbound in the northbound lane it began to rotate in a counter clockwise direction and came to final rest facing southeast on the east shoulder just south of Fairhill St.

The Chevy came to final rest facing northeast on the northbound lane just south of Fairhill St.

Cruz was deceased at the scene said the FHP. The Dresselt and his two passengers had no injuries.
