Richard Chavez Dies In Motorcycle Crash

NAPLES, FL. -- Richard Chavez, 52 of Naples is dead after a crash Tuesday at 4:05 p.m. in Collier County involving a car and three motorcyclists.

Three Motorcycles were traveling South on 55th St SW from 20th Pl SW. A white Toyota Echo driven by Sergio Franco, 26 of Bolivia, South America was stopped on 55th St SW facing North in front of 2351 55th St SW.

The White Toyota initiated a left turn to enter into the driveway of 2351 55th St SW, pulling in front of all three motorcycles and violating their right of way. The first motorcycle, a 2013 Harley Davidson, driven by Chavez impacted the front right of the Toyota, the second motorcycle impacted the right side back door of the Toyota and the third motorcycle impacted the rear of the first motorcycle.

The driver of the first motorcycle was flown by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital where he died from the injuries sustained. None of the other motorcyclists or driver and passengers were injured. Franco was charged with failing to yield right of way.

The traffic homicide investigation is still ongoing.
