Census Returns - Important For Small County Funding

LABELLE, FL. -- So far the response from Hendry County residents to the 2020 Census Request has been a whopping 27%.

The U S Census is not Border Patrol, IRS, or Child Support Enforcement. However every person counted does bring in approximately $1500 in federal funds to Hendry County.

If we were one of the richer counties in Florida and the United States as we were at one time, we could possibly ignore a reduction in federal funds. Those days are history possibly never to return.

I replied to the request to submit this simple form which asks a lot less than previous Census questionnaires. It did not ask where my parents were born let alone where I was born, if I was a US Citizen, if I was a convicted felon, or a lot of information that people researching family trees love to glean from old Census records -- only available in their entirety for 70 years after the current Census.

Field operations have been delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic but will resume once there is a return to normal. Possibly you, a family member, neighbor, or friend might be interested in applying for a job that pays $17 - $24 an hour and 58 cents a mile.

Please share this information as it could make a difference in the lives of Hendry County residents over the next 10 years or longer.
