Bizarre Spectacle At Warren Jeffs FLDS Trial

Judge Grants Jeffs Right To Represent Himself

The court has allowed Warren Jeffs, accused of sexual crimes on two girls, to represent himself in the San Angelo, Texas courtroom. Jeffs fired his attorney this morning and in a rambling speech asked to have an attorney only for guidance in court procedures.

Jeffs has fired numerous defense attorneys over the course of his legal troubles.

Warren Steed Jeffs, 55, leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is accused of having sex with a 14-year old and a 12-year old. He is alleged to be the father of the 14-year old's child, and said to have married up to 70 wives.

The Fundamentalist Mormon sect reportedly has 10,000 members scattered over Utah, Arizona, and Texas, and a worth of tens of millions of dollars.

  1. I don't buy the argument that this guy is having is rights to freedom of religion violated. Last I checked there's no right to have sex with an underage girl.
