Turning 65? Medicare Program At LaBelle's Townsend Center

Learn About Medicare and Local Community Resources at the Hendry County "Welcome to Medicare" Birthday Party and Information Fair 

Labelle, FL --The Florida Department of Elder Affairs' SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) program and the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida are having a party and all boomers turning 65 or beneficiaries new to Medicare are invited! This event is designed to welcome new Medicare beneficiaries to the program and help them understand their benefits.

What: The "Welcome to Medicare" Birthday Party and Information Fair and all its components are free to the public. The event features a presentation about Medicare, community resources from local agencies, light refreshments, health screenings and door prizes.

When: Friday, July 29 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Where: Dallas B. Townsend Center, located at 1085 Pratt Blvd. in Labelle

Why: The event will feature professionally trained volunteers of the SHINE program who will provide a Medicare 101 presentation, explaining the basics to Medicare.  SHINE volunteers will also be available to provide counseling on Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage Plans and Part D. 

Following the SHINE Medicare presentation, vendors from many agencies will provide information and resources on healthy lifestyles and provide education on resources available to community members.  There will be free blood pressure screenings provided by the Hendry County Department of Health. 

Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the event, so come early and stay for the entire event!  Join us for birthday cake, refreshments and great information.  For more information about the event, please call 866-413-5337. 

SHINE provides free and unbiased counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and their loved ones on topics such as Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care and prescription assistance.  Seniors and caregivers who are unable to attend the event can call the toll-free Florida Elder Helpline at 1-800-96-ELDER (1-800-963-5337) and ask to speak with a SHINE volunteer counselor.  More information is available at the SHINE website at www.FloridaSHINE.org.

    1. I'd like to bring my grandma to this event. This would be a great help for her to know all she needs to know about the new Medicare program. Like it!
