Clewiston Gets Tough On Sign Enforcement

Clewiston Reports New Code Enforcement Cases, Arrests, And Red Light Camera Tickets
CLEWISTON, FL. -- The city of Clewiston reports it's Community Development Department's Code Enforcement office has opened nineteen new cases including one DEP environmental case, sixteen case for overgrowth, one for a junk vehicle and one for an illegally parked vehicle, a semi truck.

The city is cracking down on political campaign signs which, according to city codes are not allowed on property until thirty days prior to an election, and cannot be within five feet of a right-of-way and must be separated by at least ten feet from any other signs.

Only one sign is allowed per single family lot and the city says any sign found in violation of the code will result in a warning and the property owner allowed 48 hours to remove the sign before a code violation case is issued to the property owner.

Police Chief Don Gutshall reported last week the State Attorney’s Office Training Group was kind enough to travel to Clewiston on Wednesday to provide in-service training to sworn staff for courtroom demeanor and testifying. The critical focus was on DUI case trial preparation and testimony.

Earlier in the week during a pool party at a residence on Ponce De Leon, a kindergartner was discovered in distress in the pool. Adult chaperones alertly pulled the child to safety and began immediate CPR. The child quickly recovered and seems to have made a full recovery.
