FHP TRAFFIC HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST IN HENDRY COUNTY FATAL HIT-AND-RUN
HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. – Following an exhaustive criminal investigation, the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit has arrested Christian Joel Miguel Leon, DOB 04/10/1995, of Winter Haven, Florida for the June 28, 2026, fatal hit-and-run crash on US 27 at Francisco Street in Hendry County.
On June 28, 2026, Miguel Leon was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger Pickup Truck eastbound on US 27, approaching Francisco Street. At the same time, an adult male pedestrian was attempting to cross the eastbound travel lanes of US 27.
The front of the Ford Ranger collided with the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following the crash, Miguel Leon fled the crash scene in the 1999 Ford Ranger.
The investigation determined that Miguel Leon traveled to Polk County, parked the 1999 Ford Ranger at an RV Park, and briefly posted it for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
On June 29, 2026, Florida Highway Patrol State Troopers located and impounded the 1999 Ford Ranger.
On September 8, 2026, Miguel Leon was located in Polk County, placed under arrest, and booked into the county jail for:Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death
Obstructing Justice – Tampering with Evidence
The crash remains under investigation.
