LaBelle Crash Sends Woman To Hospital

Pedestrian Struck By Truck In Port LaBelle

LABELLE, FL. -- A 2004 Ford pickup truck struck a pedestrian at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday at Eucalyptus Boulevard and Sunflower Circle in Port LaBelle.

A truck driven by Alfredo Mulero Baez, 50 of Lehigh Acres was northbound on Eucalyptus Blvd. while Melissa Encarnacion, 38 was northbound on the east grassy shoulder adjacent to the roadway.

The driver failed to observe Encarnacion and the collision impact caused the right side rear view mirror to disengage from the right door as it hit her. Encarnacion came to rest in the prone position facing east, partially on the grassy shoulder and partially in the roadway, according to the FHP report.

Encarnacion was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Baez was cited for failure to use due care.
