He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. Richard worked many years as a machinist for the NCR Corporation in Ithaca, NY and retired 10 years ago at the Fort Myers Newspress. He was an excellent mechanic and carpenter and he loved helping people build whatever was needed. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife: Erlinda Maria(Fernandez-Santillan) Porter of LaBelle, daughters: Susan Yorkey of LaBelle, Patricia (Bruce) Burke of Lake Worth, FL, sons: Richard Porter of Ithaca, NY; Brian (Danielle) Porter of Cortland, NY and William Porter of Newfield, NY, brothers: Francis (Mary) Porter, Raymond Porter, Allen (Deborah) Porter, Leon (Mary) Porter and Douglas Porter, grandchildren: Kaleigh, Steven, Keonna, Matthew, Megan, Caleb, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that truly loved him.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the the Memorial Chapel at Hope Healthcare Services, 1201 Wings Way, Lehigh Acres, FL. With Pastor Larry Jinks of First Baptist Church, St. James City, FL officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary, 41660 Horseshoe Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33982.
