New Year's Eve Gruesome Murder
The Pinellas county Sheriff's office said on December 31, 2014 at approximately 7:22 PM Mario Gomez called 911 telling dispatchers his mother, Maria Suarez-Cassagne, was killed by his brother and the brother had cut her head off.
Deputies arrived on scene and met Mario in front of the residence then made sure no one else was inside. They located Maria’s body outside of the residence near the garbage cans. Mario advised Deputies his brother Christian had left the residence. Deputies immediately set up a perimeter in the area to look for him.
Another caller phoned 911 with information on a suspicious person riding a bicycle in the area. Deputies observed the subject riding a bike at approximately 7:57 PM near 1802 Driftwood Circle. They attempted to stop him. He did not stop and a brief foot chase ensued and Christian Gomez was taken into custody by deputies.
During interviews with the Pinellas Sheriff's Detectives Christian admitted to the murder.
The murder weapon, an axe, has been recovered, they said.
Christian has been charged with 1st Degree Murder and is currently in the Pinellas County Jail. The incident occurred at 1924 Sheffield Court, Oldsmar, Fl.
The investigation continues said a press release from the Sheriff.
