CLEWISTON, FL. (March 30, 2006) -- The Clewiston Police Department reports
the arrest of a suspect in the brutal attack on a city employee which
occurred early Wednesday morning in the area of the public library. The
library was closed all day Wednesday as evidence was collected in the area.
Officers were alerted to the crime before daylight on Wednesday, finding
the female victim behind the library, and worked throughout the morning
into early afternoon before arresting a suspect in the case.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. on March 29, 2006, the Road Patrol Division of
the Clewiston Police Department arrested 45 year old Hector Borjas, a
transient with
family in Miami and originally from Honduras. His original arrest was
unrelated to the attack on the city employee. Throughout the day, the
members of the Clewiston Police Department's Detective Division were able
to collect enough forensic evidence to question the suspect in connection
to the brutal attact.
After a short interrogation, the subject, Hector Borjas confessed to the
crime, he was arrested and transported to the Hendry Jail in Labelle with
no bond on charges of Attempted Murder and Sexual Battery with Force and
Burglary. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition from injuries
suffered during the
attack. She has since been upgraded to stable condition. The police
department has not released information about why the woman was in the area
or any motive for the attack, but sources say she was working near the
place of her discovery. The investigation continues and more charges in the
case are possible. Release of the victim's name is being withheld because
of being a sexual battery case.
