Collection Company To Hound Library Patrons?

Glades Hires Agency To Collect Overdue Library Fines

MOORE HAVEN, FL. --  At Tuesday's Glades County Commission meeting, Glades County Librarian Mary Booher reported that 583 library patrons have overdue books and videos incurring fees and fines that total $10,952.  Of those delinquent, 450 are under $25; 72 are between $25 and $50; 48 are between $50 and $100, and 13 are over $100.  She said amnesty has not been successful in that books were coming back damaged.

Booher explained that a collection service could be hired that would charge only for the delinquent accounts they collected and would add a collection fee onto the fees/fines due.  The Board approved an agreement with Unique Management to allow the company to collect overdue fines, with $10 to be added onto each delinquent account for collection fees.
