A Celebration of Life Eucharist will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church Thursday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. with committal immediately following. The Very Rev. Alan H. Kelmereit will officiate.
After leaving Elkhart, Indiana, and marrying Linda Montgomery of Cincinnati in 1972, they started their live together in Port LaBelle, Florida. Once in LaBelle he immediately became involved with service organizations in both Lee and Hendry Counties, assuming leadership roles in most.
Those affiliations included Habitat for Humanity, ECHO, Sunshine, Lee Co. Master Gardeners, Port LaBelle Garden Club, Laurel Oaks Property Owners Association, Barron Water Management Board, Port LaBelle Utility Advisory Committee and served many years as the Junior Warden at the Church of the Good Shepherd being honored as Junior Warden Emeritus by The Rt. Rev. Dabney Smith, Bishop of the diocese.
Harold also served his country with pride in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the LaBelle American Legion Post 130. He was able to retire or resign with dignity from his many organizations before having to be cared for these last four years in a nursing care facility in Ft. Myers.
Besides wife Linda, other remaining relatives include one brother in Ft. Wayne, a daughter and five sons, their mother plus many grandchildren and great grandchildren all still in the Elkhart area.
Per his wishes, there will be no viewing. Family and friends will be at the church one hour before the service. If desired, contributions to the Memorial Fund of the church in his name would be appreciated. Church of the Good Shepherd is located at 1098 Collingswood Parkway, LaBelle, FL 33935.
The family would like to thank the many care givers from Hope Hospice and Evans Health Care for their kindness and dedicated care during his prolonged illness.
