CLEWISTON, FL. -- Elizabeth Cruz, 62 of Clewiston was traveling south on County Road 833 at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday night and traveled off the roadway onto the west grass shoulder.
The 2010 Toyota Coralla traveled in a southwesterly direction on the shoulder and entered a water-filled canal. The vehicle was totally submerged in the canal. Cruz was extricated from the car by a Hendry County Sheriff's Deputy and the Montura Flaghole Fire Department.
She was transported by Hendry County EMS to Labelle and was subsequently transported by LeeFlight from Labelle to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
