LABELLE, FL. -- A live aboard boating couple found themselves in grave danger last week during Hurricane Ian's path through Southwest Florida.
Anchored near the Bob Mason Park in LaBelle, Jody Rhodes and his wife got caught in the tropical storm strength winds as the Caloosahatchee River was rising to almost a dozen feet above normal.
Their boat ended up on the park's shoreline above the docks.
Rhodes tried to use his truck to move the boat, and several LaBelle residents, including Captain Scott Perry, tried to offer assistance. But the boat was stuck hard about 12 feet from the river.
He says he thinks he could be able to slide the boat into the water if he can raise it level, suggesting some tractor tires placed underneath the left side could bring it level in order to then pull it from the bow into the river.
Now, short on money and luck, Rhodes asks if anyone could be of assistance to call him at (386) 693-0469 or (386) 690-2739.
