FHP Nabs148 MPH Ferrari On I-75

From the FHP:

Collier County - Interstate 75 –RACING ARRESTS / RELATED INCIDENTS

INCIDENT 1

On February 22, 2025, at 4:05 pm, Florida Highway Patrol State Troopers responded to a report of stopped vehicles / traffic congestion and a helicopter flying at a low attitude (to gain footage) on northbound Interstate 75 (Alligator Alley), in the area of the 51-mile marker, Collier County. Five dark colored SUVS were parked side by side, occupying the travel lanes and shoulders. Several individuals were standing outside their vehicles, while a bright green sports car (Porsche GT3 911) performed aggressive circular spins (aka donuts). This action left a thick cloud of smoke, leaving a visible haze in the area. While in response to the above-described incident, troopers observed more than 25 high performance vehicles driving north at a high rate of speed.

State Troopers initiated a traffic stop on the bright green Porsche GT3 911 within the parking lot of the 63-mile marker recreation area. It matched the description of the above-mentioned vehicle. Troopers located and identified Scott Reback who identified himself as a passenger in the bright green Porsche at the time of the street takeover. Reback was placed under arrest for 316.191.2 Riding a Passenger in race Competition… a person may not… (c) Knowingly ride as a passenger in any such race, drag race, street takeover, stunt driving, competition, contest, test, or exhibition.

At this time, the identity of the bright green Porsche Driver, described only as “the camera guy”, remains unknown.

INCIDENT 2

On February 22, 2025, at 4:09 pm, additional FHP State Troopers responded to an active street takeover occurring at mile marker 63 on the northbound lanes of Interstate 75. Troopers observed a blue Porsche making an illegal U-turn at mile marker 65, a prohibited paved U-turn spot. A traffic stop was initiated, and it was later determined that the Porsche was unregistered. As a result, the blue Porsche was impounded, and the driver ( Rashed Fathi Rashed, age 39) was issued a misdemeanor notice to appear in court.

INCIDENT 3

At approximately 4:19 pm, troopers observed a two door 2024 Blue Ferrari SF90 actively engaged in a speed competition (racing) with multiple exotic vehicles on northbound Interstate 75. The Ferrari (with no displayed license tag) was clocked at 148 mph in a posted 70 mph zone. FHP initiated a traffic stop and placed the driver under arrest for F.S.316.191(2)(a) racing on the highway.

The driver was identified by his New York Driver’s license as Andrew Mumtaz Tadras. In addition, the driver was issued a citation for unlawful speed and no tag attached. The Ferrari was impounded pursuant to Florida Statute 316.191(5)(c) for the next 30 business days. Tadras was booked into the Collier County Jail.

FAA Being Hacked Today? Sites Not Available?

A search of the FAA.GOV website was unsuccessful all day Sunday from our computers and phones in Southwest Florida. Trying to go to the Federal Aviation Administration webpage led to this warning:

"This site can’t be reached
faa.gov’s server IP address could not be found.

Try:Checking the connection
Checking the proxy, firewall, and DNS configuration
Running Windows Network Diagnostics

ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED"

or a message said the website could not be found.

We discovered the issue when trying to find Temporary Flight Restrictions, or TFRs on the FAA website at tfr.faa.gov this morning.  This site is a required page to look at before pilots fly anywhere. It designates locations where aircraft are restricted for reasons such as Presidential visits, stadium NFL, MLB games, and high security areas.

When trying to get to TFR.FAA.GOV  all day today the message came up as showing the page was unavailable. A check at 5:52 p.m. (EST) now shows it's working.

Whether the FAA has been hacked or a temporary glitch, or not enough personnel to keep it running is now in question, as safety may have been affected when pilots apparently could not find TFR restricted areas before they began flight or get to the main FAA site.

Leave comments if you have trouble going to faa.gov.

UPDATE Monday Feb. 24: It appears this morning that the FAA website must first be accessed as "www.faa.gov" when using a Chrome browser and on some phones. Once your browser has stored that location, you can then use "faa.gov" to get to the website. When this programming change of the IP address was made is unknown. Normally, website programmers have coded their sites so that any web site can be accessed when the "www" is not typed in. Why the FAA has not done this is a question.

Veterans React To New VA Secretary Doug Collins Video

Doug Collins, new Secretary of Veterans Affairs, appointed by President Trump is now receiving negative comments by many veterans, reacting to his video this week. Collins alleged the media are not telling the truth about the VA and Veteran's benefits.

In hundreds of comment on the VA page featuring Collins' one and one-half minute video, commenters were making complaints of the VA's backlog in handling cases.

We noted the weekly VA News email to Veterans from the VA was marked at the top in red warnings:

This message seems dangerous

Many people marked similar messages as phishing scams, so this might contain unsafe content. Avoid clicking links, downloading attachments, or replying with personal information.

Our guess is that the folks now doing the IT work on the VA News messed up badly in coding the letter, and people did mark it as phishing, as the links did not work on the page.

ICE Agents Said To Be In LaBelle

LABELLE, FL. -- Facebook posters have reported  ICE agents were at a local Azteca store on South Main Street this week.

The Immokalee RCMA child care organization has sent out a notice to parents that immigration agents may be expected in the area this week. They said they may be in LaBelle, Lehigh, Immokalee and Fort Myers.

The RCMA reminded those who may be affected that they do not have to answer the door for anyone, and do not have to answer any questions if asked. And suggested to not sign anything given to them by immigration agents.

UPDATE: Four males were reportedly arrested in LaBelle at Cowboy Way and Garden Street Wednesday morning. Hendry county deputies were said to be assisting ICE agents. Two men were reportedly from Mexico and two from Guatemala, working as landscape workers.

ICE will not provide details saying they are too busy and their workload is to high picking up people.

LaBelle May Be Home To 20,000 Monkeys In Secret Deal

PETA Uncovers Deal to Cage 20,000 Monkeys In Florida

LaBelle, Fla. —PETA has uncovered a secret deal between monkey importer Charles River Laboratories and SIMI United States, LLC, a company newly incorporated by the executives behind Safer Human Medicine—the company intent on building a gigantic monkey farm and warehouse against the wishes of locals in Bainbridge, Georgia —to turn 70 acres of ecologically sensitive land in LaBelle into yet another massive monkey farm that would reportedly confine 20,000 endangered macaques.

SIMI bought properties at 7533 W State Road 80, and surrounding acreage off Wheeler Road west of LaBelle, near the Hendry/Lee county line and directly behind the new Old Florida RV Park. The site is not actually on SR80 but down Townsend Canal Rd., a so-called "private" dirt road on the east side of the RV Park. The company there breeding monkeys previously has been Pre-Labs LLC and Primera Science Labs.

Property records indicate they paid $3 Million for the 16 acres with a facility built there, and another 35 vacant acres around it. The facility with offices and labs is currently a monkey breeding facility. They reportedly import the animals and then sell them to laboratories for experimental studies. The adjoining land would presumably be additional building sites.

Click for: Google Map of the facility location

The companies tried to keep the deal hidden, said PETA who discovered it through whistleblower reports and public documents. Safer Human Medicine seemingly disguised its involvement by creating SIMI as a shell company, apparently to distance itself from backlash over its stalled and legally entangled plans for a monkey facility in Georgia.

Some officers of Safer Human Medicine are former Charles River executives, including former Executive Vice President David Johst and former Executive Director of Nonhuman Primate Operations Kurt Derfler. It is unclear whether Safer Human Medicine is abandoning its troubled Bainbridge, Georgia, monkey farm project.

Records show that Charles River Laboratories not only sold the land to SIMI but is also holding the mortgage for the deal. The property includes a small monkey warehouse where Charles River stored imported macaques—many of them from Cambodia. Charles River never publicized the closing of their LaBelle facility or the sale of the facility and additional neighboring plots of land to a competitor.

Plans are to expand the facility to confine up to 20,000 endangered long-tailed macaques imported from Vietnam, according to a whistleblower. Vietnam is a major source of monkeys infected with tuberculosis and is under scrutiny by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

“The primate importation industry thrives on secrecy, backroom deals, and hidden transactions because it knows the public won’t accept its plans to keep 20,000 monkeys caged for sale to laboratories, with all the inherent risks involved in such an enterprise,” says PETA Senior Science Advisor on Primate Issues Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel. “If this massive facility moves forward, it would be the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, fueling unprecedented animal suffering and serious environmental risks.”

PETA said, "The planned expansion of the existing Charles River facility could pose a major risk of environmental damage to the surrounding environment, which could be contaminated with monkeys’ saliva, blood, and other bodily fluids. Monkeys caught up in the primate importation pipeline have arrived to the U.S. infected with multiple strains of tuberculosis, malaria, Ebola-like viruses, simian hemorrhagic fever virus, deadly bacteria, and other pathogens and diseases that can be transmitted to humans and other animals. Monkey escapes are also common, most recently seen in the widely publicized escape of 43 monkeys from an Alpha Genesis facility in South Carolina in November."

Last year, PETA supporters and locals successfully pressured Charles River to scuttle plans to build a huge warehouse capable of holding 43,000 monkeys in Brazoria County, Texas.

In nature, macaques live in large groups with an intense focus on social relationships. These family-oriented animals are endangered, largely due to the biomedical industry decimating wild populations. Monkeys are torn from their families in the forest or bred on squalid factory farms before being boarded up in tiny wooden boxes, shipped to the U.S., and warehoused in barren metal cages until they’re sold and trucked to laboratories, where they will be poisoned, mutilated, and ultimately killed.

An injured, bleeding, and scared long-tailed macaque caught up in the international wildlife trade. This photo was obtained through a public records request by Stiching Animal Rights.

PETA points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.

What A High Wind (Cross-Wind) Aircraft Landing Looks Like

The likely cause of the Toronto airport crash today may be related to the weather and high winds, as the aircraft attempted landing at a wind angle of 40 degrees to the right of runway 23 at Toronto Pearson. The Bombardier CRJ 900 Delta Airlines aircraft may not have been capable of landing in the particular wind conditions that may have happened very suddenly.

That model of aircraft has a capability of landing in a cross wind of about 25 miles per hour. The winds were said to be gusting at higher that that at Toronto.

To be overturned, it may be presumed a "micro burst" of very strong winds or cross-winds hit the aircraft as it was landing, tearing off the wings and tail as it hit the ground and landed on it's back.

James The Young Brown Pelican by Bob Kranich

James The Young Brown Pelica
n
 by Bob Kranich

(Excerpt 4)

This is a new story. We are first introduced to James the young Brown pelican, and a young fellow who is sketching him on the docks of Key West. James is now going to do some soaring and go up the Keys. He is about to meet a strange White pelican.

“Thanks Grandpa,” James said as he beat his wings, gave a push off and up with his webbed feet and instantly rose up and away from the salt pond.

I will fly a few miles up the Keys…. maybe I’ll go up to Big Pine Key. Let’s see what I can hear from other pelicans about a storm. Also I want to think about this faith stuff.

This time he beat his wings slowly but forcefully as he gained altitude. He sure liked it up high. It wasn’t too long before he could see the string of Keys heading east northeast. In fact he could see Big Pine Key a few miles up ahead.

He didn’t see or feel anything strange about the weather. Maybe Grandfather was wrong. It had been some time since he had been up this way. This is the Key that has the little deer, he thought. Looking down he saw a quiet, smooth, sandy beach. He circled the area one time, keeping a sharp eye out for predators along the tree line just up from the beach. Big Pine Key was one of the largest Keys and it had a lot of small pine trees and other vegetation on it.
“Looks OK,” he said out loud and swooped down and landed. It was quiet, except for a cormorant, a couple of gulls floating lazily on the water, and a few sand crabs scurrying about on the beach.

Suddenly James was startled by a large white pelican landing right in front of him.

“Hey bird! What’s happenin’?”

James was looking at a mature white adult, in fact a pretty sharp looking one!

“What ya doin’? What’s your name?” The white bird was jovial.

James didn’t know what to make of all this.

“Ah...ah, my name’s James,” James stammered. “You...you aren’t from around here, are you? I’ve never seen a white pelican.”

“Nope, I’m down from the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Kill Devil Hills to be exact. It’s my working area.”

“I don’t know where that is,” James stated.

“Don’t know where that is! Where you been all your life? Oh, now I see, you're a young'un. It is up the Atlantic Coast, about 1000 miles.”

“Oh dear me, I forgot my manners, My name’s Sam, ‘Smilin’ Sam’ to be exact. Just call me Smilin’ for short.

Nice to meet you James.”

“Nice to meet you too, Smilin’. What are you doing down here on the Keys?” James asked.

“James, I like to move around, learn about everything. Of course sometimes I’m sent places. So I decided to vacation down this way, kind of check out the Keys. Is this your island? I mean Key. What is this place?”

“No,” James answered, “I’m from about 40 miles farther down. It’s called Key West.”

“Oh yeah, I want to go there....always wanted to see it. In fact I may go even farther. I’ve heard that Cuba is only a short 90 mile flight!”

“Gee, I don’t even know about that,” James confessed.

“Don’t worry, you're young, you’ve got a lot of liv’n yet to do. By the way, what brings you over here from Key West?”

James The Young Brown Pelican by Bob Kranich

“James The Young Brown Pelican”
by Bob Kranich

(Excerpt 1)

This is a new story. We are first introduced to James the young Brown pelican, and a young fellow who is sketching him on the docks of Key West. James is now going to do some soaring and go up the Keys.

-----

James glided as all three dropped down, down, down. He could see them line up single file as they skimmed the foaming top of a long breaking wave. Then, as one, they all hit the water with their beaks, dipping their pouches in the wave top. They must have come upon a school of small fish pushed to the top by the wave action. He looked back, and he could see them floating there as a couple of gallons of water drained from each of their pouches. Once the water was out, they then could swallow the small fish whole!

They all were floating with hardly any of their bodies below the surface of the water. This was because of the air sacs under their skin and breast and the air pockets in their bones.

James just did not want to be part of their follow-the-leader game.
James could see the faint green salt ponds ahead. He slowly glided inland and made a quick circle around the pond where Grandpa Pelican resided. Then he saw Grandpa just floating and sunning himself near the pond’s shore not far from Southeast Roosevelt Boulevard.

James glided around one more time and without flapping a wing came to a perfect landing in the pond just a few yards from Grandpa.

“Whew! James, you gave me a start!” Grandpa exclaimed, “Good to see you. What brings you here?”

“Hi Grandpa, you're looking well. It’s been a while since I came by; in fact, I’m overdue for a visit. Grandpa, I need to talk. I’m feeling down. All the other pelicans always tease me because I don’t want to fly around in a line all day and just fish. I want to do something different. I don’t want to be just like all the rest. It seems that I have nothing to live for!”

“I can understand that James. When I was your age I had the same feeling.”

“So Grandpa, I need some advice….some help!”

“One thing, James, we pelicans have a reputation to uphold. You know that we come from a long lineage. In fact, pelicans date back to ancient times!”

“How do you know that, Grandpa?”

“Well the two-leg humans have written records. We have oral tradition. It will be up to you to pass on all the information that I and your parents tell you, and also whatever you learn, to your young.”

“Grandpa that is all very interesting, but sometimes I get so discouraged.”

“Now wait just a minute there Sonny. You have a lot to live for. You have your health...you have your family...and you have your faith.”

“Faith….what’s faith Grandpa?”

“Grandson, faith is your belief and trust in a Higher Being. The Power that made all this around us, including the earth and everything in it. He also made the heavens above, the sun, the moon and the stars.”

“What is he called, Grandpa?”

“Why He is called God…..The God of the universe.”

“Oh, I didn’t know,” said James.

“I realize that most pelicans don’t even ask or worry about the greater things.” Grandpa exclaimed, “But since you want to be different, you need to think about this Power from above.”

“Thank you Grandpa,” James said sincerely, “I will go along now and will think this over.”

“Good boy, and remember, if you need it....the Power, all you have to do is ask.”

“Bye Grandpa.”

“One other thing, James, I think a storm is a’brewin’.

“How do you know Grandpa?” James asked.

“I can feel it in my bones. I’m usually right, so you take care and keep a watchful eye.”

Specifically, Williams is charged with unreasonable use of force and obstruction of justice. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison on the use of force charge, and up to 20 years’ imprisonment on the obstruction charge.
