LABELLE, FL. -- A pedestrian died on State Road 80 Monday after being hit by a passing car.
From the FHP crash report:
Vehicle 02 (Ram Pickup w/trailer) driven by 61 year old male from Lehigh Acres was westbound on State Road-80 west of Grandma Grove RV Park.
A trash bag flew off Vehicle 02’s trailer. When this occurred, Vehicle 02 pulled into the inside shoulder, partially blocking the inside lane with its hazard flashing lights on.
Vehicle 01 (Toyota) driven by 27 year old female from Fort Myers was westbound on State Road-80 approaching Vehicle 02.
Vehicle 01, failed to move over for Vehicle 02, a pick up truck with trailer.
As Vehicle 01 approached Vehicle 02, the passenger (Pedestrian 01), 61 year old male from Alva exited Vehicle 02 in an attempt to grab the trash bag within the roadway.
The front of Vehicle 01 collided with the passenger side mirror of Vehicle 02, the trailer, and the Pedestrian.
****The Pedestrian was transported via Bay-Flite to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Ft. Myers. He was pronounced deceased later that evening.****
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate this traffic crash.
