Help On Way To Glades Residents Hit By Heavy Winds
Damage was reported by residents to their homes and the Lakeport Volunteer Firehouse. Power lines were down and debris was in the streets. Other property damage in the area is likely, say county officials.
Glades County will assess the damage beginning at 8:00am on October 19, 2011 and clean-up, repairs, and the use of tarps will begin immediately as needed.
Update: Tornado activity in the vicinity of the Lakeport Volunteer Fire Department on State Road 78 last night between 7:00pm and 8:00pm damaged approximately 38 houses and structures. The structures included, among others, porches, garages, boat houses, roofs, barns, carports, and the firehouse. There were no human injuries reported.
Cleanup of public roadways have been completed; electrical service is back to normal. Volunteers helped with tarping of roofs and removal of storm debris. Major repairs are to be made now.
