Motorcyclist Scott Lord Killed By Passing Truck

CLEWISON. FL. -- A motorcyclist is dead after a 11:20 a.m.Sunday morning crash involving a truck illegally passing on a Hendry county road.

Melvin W. James, 55 of South Bay driving a 1994 Chevy 1500 truck and 2007 Honda VTX1300 motorcycle driven by Scott Ralph Lord, 52 of Deerfield Beach were traveling northbound in the northbound lane of CR 833 (Sam Jones Trail) approaching the intersection with CR 832 (Keri Rd).

The truck was behind the motorcycle said the FHP. On scene witnesses stated there was a group of motorcycles between the truck and the motorcycle. CR 833 has double yellow line separating north and southbound lanes indicating a no passing zone south of the intersection, but the truck entered the no passing zone, traveled into the southbound lanes and improperly passed to the left of the motorcycles.

The truck entered the intersection from the no passing zone at the same time the motorcycle turned left into the intersection. The front of the truck collided with the left rear side of the motorcycle as both vehicles were in the intersection.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the accident.

James was cited for passing in a no passing zone.

  1. My condolences to Scott's family. He was a wonderful man. Such a tragedy. I hope the trucker spends time in jail thinking about the good life he took, for no reason other than the bikers were going the speed limit, no more, as this group always does, and he just couldn't wait. RIP Scott.

Don't know how many laws the truck driver violated, but his willful negligence and disregard was the direct cause of this fatal accident that took the motorcyclists life. How is a traffic citation a viable punishment/deterrent for this type of action? I have compassion for the offender....he has to live this extremely poor decision the rest of his life, but the punishment has to parallel the offense or there is no justice.

    1. The driver never asked if Scott was okay. He only cared about the damage to his truck

Another article says the driver of the truck was taken to local hospital with minor injuries and released. How can he murder another human and pay no price for it. whats wrong with this country.

I'm saddened to hear of this tragic accident. I haven't ridden with this group in a few years, but safety was always a priority on the rides. I always held Scott in high regards, and he was a good man.

    Rest In Peace Scott
Condolences to the family and friends

If you're breaking the law, he should be charged with atleast negligence homicide.

  10. Melvin W. James, 55 of South Bay, the guy who killed Scott, was fined $1000 for illegally passing. Mr James should be in prison.
