CLEWISON. FL. -- A motorcyclist is dead after a 11:20 a.m.Sunday morning crash involving a truck illegally passing on a Hendry county road.
Melvin W. James, 55 of South Bay driving a 1994 Chevy 1500 truck and 2007 Honda VTX1300 motorcycle driven by Scott Ralph Lord, 52 of Deerfield Beach were traveling northbound in the northbound lane of CR 833 (Sam Jones Trail) approaching the intersection with CR 832 (Keri Rd).
The truck was behind the motorcycle said the FHP. On scene witnesses stated there was a group of motorcycles between the truck and the motorcycle. CR 833 has double yellow line separating north and southbound lanes indicating a no passing zone south of the intersection, but the truck entered the no passing zone, traveled into the southbound lanes and improperly passed to the left of the motorcycles.
The truck entered the intersection from the no passing zone at the same time the motorcycle turned left into the intersection. The front of the truck collided with the left rear side of the motorcycle as both vehicles were in the intersection.
The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the accident.
James was cited for passing in a no passing zone.
