Javier Alvarez, 39 of Hialeah and Luis Fernando Lozada, 32 of Miami are dead after a crash on I-75 at Mile Marker 76 in Collier county this morning at 6:54 a.m.
Alvarez in a 2015 Hino 195 truck traveled west on Interstate 75 (State Road 93) on the westbound outside lane as Gilberto Santana, 48 of Miami traveled west on Interstate 75 on the westbound outside lane at a slower speed in a 1995 Kenworth truck ahead of Alvarez who failed to recognize and react to Santana's slower speed ahead which caused his vehicle's front to strike the other turck's trailer rear on the westbound outside lane.
The impact attached the truck's front to the trailer's rear. Santana indicated he felt the collision and brought his vehicle to a controlled rest on the north paved shoulder northwest of the occurrence.
Alvarez's truck came to rest faced west on the north paved shoulder with it's front attached to the trailer's rear northwest of the area of collision. The truck/trailer came to rest faced west on the north paved shoulder with Alverez's vehicle attached to the trailer's rear northwest of the area of collision.
The deceased were taken to the Collier County Medical Examiners Office in Naples. The crash is under investigation.
