LABELLE, FL. -- The Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida has added three new members to their board of directors. All three have extensive roots in the region and are dedicated to improving educational opportunities for children.

Joseph Pepe, Ed.D., is the interim health department administrator for Hendry and Glades counties and a professor at Barry University. He has also served as the executive vice president of administration at Hodges University. He says, “It is my personal belief that a better educated and healthier community will be happier and more productive.”

John Ahern is the chairman of the Glades County Board of County Commissioners for District 4. He also spent 28 years in Moore Haven city government.

Maureen Ungarean, Ed.D., is the director of early learning with Collier County Public Schools. She has 20 years of experience in the field of education. She says she hopes to continue to help improve kindergarten readiness in the four-county area served by the ELC.

“The Coalition board reflects the diverse demographics of our service delivery area,” said Susan Block, CEO of the ELC. “We welcome Dr. Pepe, Mr. Ahern, and Dr. Ungarean and their expertise to a strong group of community leaders.”
