ALVA, Fl. -- Justin Schipansky, 18 of Moore Haven suffered serious injuries along with seven others in a two vehicle crash Sunday evening at 8:47 in Lee county near Hickey Creek.
Schipansky, driving a 2007 Nissan Titan was traveling west on SR-80 (Palm Beach Boulevard) in the outside lane. A 2014 Chrysler driven by Donald Johnson 65, of Fort Myers was traveling east on SR-80 in the outside lane. Traffic in front of the Nissan came to a complete stop. The driver of the Nissan swerved towards the north shoulder. The driver over corrected.
Update: On Oct. 7, 2016 the FHP said a passenger in the Chrysler, Estelle Walker, 88 of Fort Myers has died.
The Nissan traveled southwest across both westbound lanes and into the grass median. The front left portion of the Nissan struck a tree. The Nissan continued to travel southwest across the inside eastbound lane and into the outside eastbound lane, traveling into the path of the Chrysler. The front portion of the Chrysler stuck the left side of the Nissan.
A passenger in the Nissan was seriously injured as were four other passengers in the Chrysler. All were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. The crash is under investigation.
