Glades County Emergency Info Posted

Closings And Storm Warning For Glades County, Florida

United Way 211 has been activated and the public is encouraged to call them for Glades County updates. Glades County Schools are closed Monday. Glades County Courthouse is closed Monday. The Glades County BOCC meeting for Monday has been cancelled. Glades County Sheriff’s Office Administrative staff will be off Monday but all sworn personnel are to report to work as scheduled

Voluntary evacuation of mobile homes and low lying areas. The following shelters will be opened later today:
*Muse Community Shelter will be opened at noon today.
*Maple Grove Baptist Church will be opened at 2pm today.

The Glades County BOCC declared a state of emergency at 4:30pm on August 25, 2012 based on National Weather Service prediction of severe weather for Glades County. Conditions could be severe between noon on Sunday (Aug 26th) through noon on Monday (Aug 27th). Sustain winds are predicted at 40 – 50 MPH with gusts up to 60 MPH during this period. The greatest threat to the area during this period is tornadoes. Citizens are advised to take precaution to protect life and property.

Rainfall is expected to be 4 – 8 inches. General shelters are Muse Community Center to be open at 12 noon and the Maple Grove Baptist church in Lakeport will open at 2pm. The Special Needs Shelter will be at the Glades County Health Department and will open at 11 am today.

County offices will be closed on Monday August 27th as well as Glades School Board schools. Emergency Management is in continuous operations until the event is no longer a threat to Glades County. They maybe be reached at 863-946-6020 for questions.

Update: The Muse Emergency Shelter has been closed at of 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Glades County General Shelters have closed as of 6:00 pm, due to not being utilized. The Special Needs Shelter remains open.

At 7 p.m. Sunday Glades County General Shelter Maple Grove is reopened.
