MOORE HAVEN, FL. -- The Glades County, Florida Sheriff's office offers free seminars to community groups on how to prevent crime and firearm safety.
A recent meeting at the Glades County Libary's open house featured Glades Chief Deputy Potorff and Sgt. Hardin giving a three hour presentation on crime prevention including home security issues, vehicle theft, and firearms and Florida's "Stand Your Ground" laws.
Hardin, the Sheriff's firing range supervisor, told participants the requirements for concealed weapons permits and talked about weapon safety. Chief Pottorff talked about home security and how to make doors, windows, lock and keys safer, and how to use vehicle theft prevention devices including alarms, wheel locks, and kill switches.
The Sheriff's office also offers Citizen Observer Patrol Academy classes over a period of weeks, open to the public without charge.
