FORT MYERS, FL. -- Oliver U. Hernandez-Godin, 23 of Bonita Springs, Florida was operating a dump truck northbound on I-75 (State Road 93) north of County Road 840 (Alico Road) within the center lane when he failed to maintain control and as a result guided the truck onto the eastbound shoulder of the roadway and subsequently across the northbound entrance ramp from County Road 840 (Alico Road).
Prior to entering onto the east shoulder of the entrance ramp, he decided to jump from the cab to separate himself from the truck. The dump truck now driverless continued on the east shoulder traveling in an easterly direction through a barbed wire fence coming to final rest upon a tree.
Godin was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and has been charged with careless driving.
