He graduated from LaBelle High School. He served in the US Navy aboard the Destroyer USS Shea as a Sonar/Radar Technician during WWII, patrolling out of Guantanamo Bay. He Graduated from the University of Florida with a Civil Engineering Degree. He worked for the Corps of Engineers.
He was dedicated to his family, as well as the First Baptist Church of Clewiston where he served as a Deacon since 1954. He was a member of Rotary and the Gideons. He was an avid golfer, and at one time City Champion.
Survivors include his wife: Joan (Jones) Miller three sons: David (Debra A) Nigel Miller, Michael Jones and James (Marla) Jones five daughters: Jane (James Predeceased) Rudd, Marianne (Andy) Anderson, Bonnie Sue (Jeff) Krone, Sandra (John) Baker and Melinda (Lee) Jones, 17 Grandchildren & 13 Great Grandchildren He was predeceased by his brother: Roger Ellis Miller

Mr. Brookins married Denise E. Earnest; she survives. He was a parts supervisor for A. Duda and Sons before he retired.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. James leaves behind his loving wife; Denise Brookins, mother; Tommie Brookins, daughters; Rebecca Cook and her husband Shawn, Lisa Brookins Williams and her husband Johnathan, and Linda Graham and her husband Adrian, brother; Robert Brookins and his wife; Sharon, sisters; Mary Brookins and Chris Pickles and her husband Keith; grandchildren; Brett, Jammer, Reece, and Cole, great granddaughter; Novalee and many extended family members and close friends.

Mr. McGregor married Georgina M Andrade Ferreira. He was a member of LaBelle Church of God. He was a driver for many years for the State of Florida. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
He leaves fond memories his loving wife; Georgina Ferreira, step-children; Ralph Abdul, Rita Abdul, Uryasi Abdul, Daniel Cruz, Rodrigo Cruz, Carlos Cruz, Jr, and Karla Roldao, many step-grandchildren and step – great grandchildren, many extended family members and church friends.
