Western Everglades Restoration Project Meeting June 2

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will host two meetings with landowners about the Western Everglades Restoration Project (WERP) in early June.

“The Corps will present the results of the Western Everglades Restoration Project Real Estate Analysis during two meetings in early June. This is the beginning of the conversation about real estate needs – the initial information.” said WERP Project Manager Steve Baisden. “We will provide background information on planned project features, associated benefits, and the effects to the lands within the project footprint, and the information in each meeting will be tailored specifically to the landowners in that area. Each meeting will be held both in person and virtually on the computer via WebEx, to try to accommodate everyone who would like to join us for a presentation and discussions.”

If you are joining the meetings virtually, *PLEASE log into the webinar first and have it call your phone in order to avoid background noise so all participants can hear the discussion clearly.

Please mute your phone and mute your computer upon joining the meeting.

The goals of WERP are to improve the quantity, quality, timing, and distribution of water in the Western Everglades in the effort to re-establish ecological connectivity, reduce the severity and frequency of wildfires, and restore low nutrient conditions.

The Western Everglades Restoration Project is a component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, which was authorized under the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 2000. The study area covers approximately 1,200 square miles. If the project is authorized, it will improve the quantity, quality, timing, and distribution of water in the western Everglades.
