COLLIER COUNTY – STATE ROAD 29 – FATAL HIT-AND-RUN - UPDATE – ARREST
On Monday, August 17, 2026, a deceased bicyclist (19-year-old male of Lehigh Acres) was discovered on the grass shoulder of State Road 29, south of State Road 82, Collier County. State Troopers immediately responded, surveyed the scene, and collected evidence to include multiple fragments of a headlight lens etc… in the area of the collision.
After an extensive criminal investigation, the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit determined the fatal hit-and-run traffic crash actually occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., on State Road 29, south of State Road 82, in Collier County.
On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, State Troopers located the hit and run 2014 Dodge Pickup Truck in a residential community in Estero, Florida. Upon further inspection, State Troopers determined the physical damage to the Dodge was consistent with the hit and run crash. State Troopers additionally determined both headlamps had been replaced post collision. The Dodge was then impounded for further forensic examination.
State Troopers subsequently arrested the hit and run driver, Pedro Lopez Fernando, age 42 of Immokalee, for Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash Involving Death and Tampering with Evidence.
Lopez Fernando was booked into the Collier County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
