Glades Crash In Fog Sends Man To Hospital

Fog Contributes To Two Truck Crash

PALMDALE, FL. -- A Tampa man is in the hospital in serious condition after crashing into a semi truck on U.S. 27 Wednesday morning about 1 a.m.

Matthew M. Murphy, 33 was driving a 2011 Volvo tractor-trailer while Juan Gutierrez, 50 of North Miami Beach was traveling northbound on US-27 at CR733 near Palmdale, Florida in the right travel lane. 

Gutierrez  was directly in front of Murphy and was traveling below the posted speed limit due heavy fog which had settled in the area. 

Murphy failed to observe the semi tractor trailer ahead and the front end of his truck collided with the rear of Gutierrez' truck. Gutierrez came to final rest in the right northbound travel lane of US-27, facing north and Murphy came to final rest against it in the right northbound travel lane of US-27, facing north. 

Murphy was entrapped and had to be extricated by Emergency Medical Service personnel and was was then transported to Florida Hospital in Lake Placid, Florida in serious condition.
