TWO TEENS INJURIED IN SHOOTING - 14-YEAR OLD WANTED
CLEWISTON, FL. -- On Saturday, May 12, Hendry County Deputies responded to the Sherwood Sub-Division in Clewiston, after receiving a call reporting gunshots fired. One suspect has been arrested and a 14-year old teen is being sought by the Hendry Sheriff's Office.
When Deputies arrived on scene they found that two victims had been taken to a nearby medical facility.
It was reported by witnesses that a group of teenagers had been hanging out at a home in the Sherwood neighborhood when a vehicle drove up and the 14 year old suspect, later identified as Gustavo Antonio Alfaro (pictured), exited the car and began arguing with one of the teenagers. It was then that the suspect fired shots into the group striking two of the teens.
On Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 23 year old Victor Carlos Najera (pictured) of 881 Magnolia Lane, in nearby Twin Lakes Mobile Home Park, was arrested by Deputies and charged with Assault, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Shooting into a Dwelling, Discharging a Firearm in Public, and Accessory After the Fact. Najera is currently being held in the Hendry County Jail on $96,500 bond.
Najera has Hendry county drug and alcohol related convictions going back to 2008.
At this time it is unclear as to the motive of the shooting. Witnesses told Southwest Florida Online it may be gang related.
Investigators have obtained a warrant for the arrest of 14 year old Gustavo Antonio Alfaro who is avoiding contact with law enforcement. Update: 14-year old Gustavo Antonio Alfaro was located Wednesday and arrested by authorities.
