MOORE HAVEN, FL. -- Rafael Marquez died after being hit by a car on US 27 Friday morning at 7:09 a.m. in Glades county.
A Kia Optima driven by Sarah Ibietatorremendia, 21 of Moore Haven, FL was traveling south in the inside lane of US 27 (State Road 25), approaching County Road 720, in Moore Haven.
Rafael Marquez, 52 of LaBelle / FL was walking west on the paved turn around on the median of US 27 and County Road 720. Marquez was flagging for crossing farm equipment and was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US 27.
Ibietatorremendia failed to observe Marquez enter the inside lane of US 27. Subsequently, the front left side of her 2014 Kia Optima collided with Marquez.
The Kia came to stop facing southwest on the west grass shoulder of US 27, south of County Road 720. Marquez came to rest on the paved turn around median of US 27, and County Road 720. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charges are pending said the Florida Highway Patrol.
